Cyprus individual income tax is progressive. For tax year 2026, taxable income is divided into bands and each band has its own rate. Understanding this structure prevents a common mistake: assuming that reaching a higher band makes all income taxable at that higher rate.
Cyprus individual income-tax bands for 2026
- €0–€22,000: 0%
- €22,001–€32,000: 20%
- €32,001–€42,000: 25%
- €42,001–€72,000: 30%
- Above €72,000: 35%
These thresholds apply to tax year 2026 and are not the bands used for 2025. The 0% band means the first €22,000 of taxable income carries no individual income tax. It does not mean that Social Insurance, GHS or every other possible charge is zero.
Marginal rate versus effective rate
Your marginal rate is the rate applied to the next taxable euro within the band you have reached. Your effective income-tax rate is the total income tax divided by the relevant income figure. Because the earlier slices are taxed at lower rates, the effective rate is usually lower than the highest marginal rate reached.
Example: taxable income of €50,000
In a simplified 2026 calculation, the first €22,000 is taxed at 0%, the next €10,000 at 20%, the following €10,000 at 25%, and the remaining €8,000 at 30%. Only that final €8,000 is in the 30% band. This example begins with taxable income and deliberately excludes separate contributions and charges.
Why gross income may not equal taxable income
Gross salary or total receipts are starting points. The amount eventually placed into the bands can be affected by the type and source of income, eligible exemptions and deductions, and qualifying 2026 allowances. Documentation and statutory conditions matter. The same gross amount can therefore produce a different taxable amount in different circumstances.

Important limitations
Rates alone do not establish an individual tax position. Residence, income source, exemptions, deductions and other charges may change the outcome.
