A Cyprus income-tax calculation starts with the tax year and the income that falls within the Cyprus tax system. For tax year 2026, Cyprus uses progressive individual income-tax bands. Different slices of taxable income are charged at different rates; your whole income is not taxed at the highest rate you reach.
The 2026 income-tax bands
- €0 to €22,000: 0%
- €22,001 to €32,000: 20%
- €32,001 to €42,000: 25%
- €42,001 to €72,000: 30%
- Above €72,000: 35%
These are the individual income-tax bands for 2026. They should not be mixed with the lower tax-free threshold and different boundaries that applied in 2025. The Cyprus Tax Department is the authoritative source for the rules used in an official return.
From income to an estimated result
The starting figure is not always the same as taxable income. Employment income, taxable self-employment profit, rents, pensions and other income can follow different rules. Eligible deductions, exemptions and allowances may reduce the amount placed into the bands. Social Insurance, the General Healthcare System contribution (GHS) and Special Defence Contribution are separate from the progressive income-tax calculation.
A useful estimate therefore separates the income entered, assumptions about its treatment, reliefs selected and the calculated output. The Cyprus Tax Calculator applies the rules configured for the selected year to the information you provide and shows the main parts of the estimate separately.
A progressive-tax illustration
Suppose taxable income for 2026 is €40,000 after any applicable deductions. The first €22,000 falls in the 0% band. The next €10,000 falls in the 20% band, and the remaining €8,000 falls in the 25% band. The 25% rate does not apply to the full €40,000. This illustration covers income tax only; contributions and other charges require their own calculation.
What can change the estimate?
Residence and income source affect which amounts may be within scope. Income type, eligibility for expatriate exemptions, approved contributions, family circumstances and other qualifying deductions or allowances can also matter. Each has conditions, so selecting a field in a calculator is not proof that the legal condition is met.
Important limitations
A calculator result depends on complete, accurate inputs and the assumptions selected. It is an educational estimate, not a tax return, official assessment or guarantee of liability.
